Getting to know Barbara Keady (1959-2017)

Barb Keady, affectionately known as Grandma Barb, was a true champion of New Mexico’s beauty. Born in Los Alamos, New Mexico, Barb was inspired by the stunning vistas that surrounded her. A teacher, artist, and lifelong New Mexican, she shared her passion for the land through both her artwork and her role as an educator.

Barb's dedication to teaching and her love for New Mexico’s landscapes formed the foundation of her artistry. After raising her children, Barb embraced the role of Grandma Barb, sharing her love for New Mexico’s beauty with her grandchildren and students alike.

Curly Crow: A Dream Fulfilled

Even as she battled brain cancer, Barb’s creativity remained unshaken. In 2017, she realized a lifelong dream by publishing her first Curly Crow book, Curly Crow Goes to the River. This heartwarming story was a reflection of Barb's resilience, creativity, and the New Mexico landscapes she adored
