A Family Legacy Rooted in New Mexico's Spirit
At the heart of Curly Crow is a story of creativity, resilience, and a deep love for the Land of Enchantment.
Barbara Keady (1959-2017) – Artist, Educator, New Mexican
Growing up in Los Alamos, Barbara Keady was surrounded by New Mexico’s vivid landscapes and vibrant culture. As a teacher and artist, she dedicated her life to celebrating the beauty of her home through:
- Watercolors, pencil drawings, and photography
- Teaching generations of New Mexican students
- Capturing the soul of Northern New Mexico in every piece of art
Even while bravely battling brain cancer, Barbara pursued her dream of publishing a children's book. In 2017, she fulfilled that dream with Curly Crow: Goes to the River, a heartwarming story filled with the landscapes she loved so deeply.
Her legacy lives on through her timeless art and the stories that continue to inspire.
Nicholas Aragon – Author, Son, Storyteller
Barbara’s son, Nicholas Aragon, continues her legacy through Curly Crow Books. As a New Mexico True Certified Author, Nicholas shares the magic of New Mexico with young readers, carrying forward the spirit of exploration, heritage, and wonder.
His book, Curly Crow Explores New Mexico - NMTC Edition, invites children to fall in love with the state’s history, traditions, and landscapes—just as his mother inspired him to do.
