Reading Is My Superpower
Share
Every child has the potential to become a confident reader. At Curly Crow Books, we believe reading is more than a classroom skillâit's a superpower that grows through curiosity, imagination, and meaningful stories. That's why every author visit is designed to help students discover that reading can take them anywhere.
Why a Great Author Visit Isnât About Selling BooksâItâs About Building Readers
When I visit a school, Iâm not thinking about book sales.
Iâm thinking about that one student sitting quietly in the back of the room⌠the one who hasnât found their book yet.
Because once they doâeverything changes.
It Starts With a Simple Truth
Every child has a reading superpower.
Not every child loves the same books.
Not every child reads at the same level.
And not every child connects with reading in the same way.
But every child has a story that makes their imagination light up.
Thatâs where real reading begins.
What Schools Really Need Right Now
Schools donât need another presentation about reading levels or test scores.
They need moments.
Moments where:
- A student laughs during a story
- A child realizes they can create their own ideas
- A reluctant reader says, âThat book was actually funâ
Because those moments turn into habits.
And those habits turn into lifelong readers.
The Curly Crow Approach
Every Curly Crow author visit is built around one core idea:
Help kids discover their reading superpower.
Not force reading.
Not assign reading.
But unlock reading.
The Reading Superpowers Kids Discover
During each visit, students learn that reading isnât just a skillâitâs a set of superpowers they already have.
đĄ Imagination Power
âI can turn words into pictures in my mind.â
đľ Focus Power
âI can train my brain to stay with the story.â
đ˘ Confidence Power
âI can tryâeven when itâs hard.â
đ´ Curiosity Power
âI ask questions and want to know more.â
đŁ Storytelling Power
âI can create my own stories.â
đ Bravery Power
âI try new books, even if they seem different.â
These aren't just reading skillsâthey're life skills that grow stronger with every story a child discovers.
Why This Works
When kids understand that reading connects to who they are, everything shifts.
Instead of:
âI have to read.â
It becomes:
âI want to find a story I like.â
Thatâs the difference between compliance and curiosity.
And curiosity is what builds real readers.
Itâs Not About Being the Best Reader
One of the most important things I tell students is this:
You donât have to be the best reader in your class to love books.
You just have to find the stories that make you excited to read.
Because the goal isnât perfection.
The goal is connection.
What Happens After the Visit
The most powerful part of an author visit isnât the presentation itself.
Itâs what happens after.
- Students start drawing their own characters
- They ask more questions during reading time
- They become more willing to try new books
- Teachers see increased engagement
And sometimesâŚ
A student starts writing their very first story.
A Message for Schools and Educators
When you bring an author into your school, youâre not just hosting an event.
Youâre investing in identity.
Youâre showing students:
- Their ideas matter
- Their creativity matters
- Their voice matters
And most importantlyâŚ
That reading can be something they enjoyânot just something theyâre required to do.
The Curly Crow Promise
Every visit is designed to do one thing:
Help kids see themselves as readersâand as storytellers.
Because every great story starts with one small ideaâŚ
âŚand maybe a very curious crow.
Whether students continue the adventure through Curly Crow books, classroom activities, or future author visits, our mission remains the same: help every child discover that reading isn't just something they doâit's part of who they are.
